Rapid Access Pathology Service
When a patient needs a quick answer, waiting days for pathology results can delay treatment decisions, prolong uncertainty, and create unnecessary follow-up appointments.
That’s why WiSE Pathology has launched a new Rapid Access Pathology Service at WiSE Macquarie Park, providing same-day diagnostic results for a range of urgent clinical presentations.
Why use the Rapid Access Pathway?
Many patients need documented results to:
- Return to work, school or daycare
- Confirm whether they have a viral or bacterial infection
- Avoid unnecessary isolation periods
- Receive timely treatment and reassurance
With most results available within 30 minutes to 4 hours, you can often assess, investigate, diagnose, and action a management plan within the same clinical episode.
Benefits for your Practice
Make decisions in hours, not days
Most results are available within 30 minutes to 4 hours, allowing faster diagnosis and treatment planning.
Support antimicrobial stewardship
Rapid PCR testing helps distinguish viral from bacterial infections, supporting more targeted prescribing decisions and reducing unnecessary antibiotic use.
Reduce repeat visits and callbacks
Faster results mean fewer recalls, fewer follow-up phone calls, and a smoother experience for both patients and practice staff.
Keep control of patient care
Results are returned directly to the requesting GP immediately upon completion, enabling prompt follow-up and management.
How the Pathway Works
Step 1:
Complete the WiSE Rapid Access Pathology Request Form and include your contact details.
Step 2:
The patient attends WiSE Pathology collection at Macquarie Park.
Step 3:
Testing is performed on-site with rapid turnaround.
Step 4:
Results are sent directly to you on completion, followed by a courtesy phone call.
Cost
$50 out-of-pocket per request. A modest fee that provides rapid answers, fewer repeat consultations, improved patient convenience, and faster clinical decision-making.
